If you choose not to build a basement we can add a storm shelter to your home! The roof is securely anchored to the walls, the walls to each other, and the walls to the foundation. These connections are necessary to insure structural integrity and to prevent the shelter from overturning. The walls are 8-inch-thick concrete masonry units, reinforced with conventional reinforcing bars; and the cavities in the block are filled with concrete. The manufactured door consists of a hollow metal door and frame of 14 gauge metal skins. These shelters are capable of withstanding 250 mph winds and flying debris up to 100 mph, according to Texas Tech’s Wind Science & Engineering Research Center.
